St. Patrick´s Day
St. Patrick´s Day – 17th March
St. Patrick´s Day is celebrated by Irish people in all over the world on March 17th. People in our country don´t know this holiday, so they think it´s not important. But for Irish it´s very important day.
St. Patrick was born in England, in 385, but when he was 10 they took him to the Ireland as a slave. He worked as a shepherd. Then he ran away, he became bishop and he came back to Ireland. Many people became Christians and he built more than 50 churches. There is one interesting legend – St. Patrick drove away all snakes from Ireland, and that´s why there are no snakes today.
Why do people celebrate this holiday? Millions of Irish people live in all over the world. 364 days a year they study and work very hard. But this one day Irish spend all together. They sing songs about their homeland, Ireland. They feel strong and proud. On this day Irish wear green clothes, or a shamrock. They eat green food, drink green beer and even dye some rivers in green colour! It looks crazy, but they love this holiday, because they love to be an Irish!
